Logical and Philosophical Remarks on Quasi-Set Theory
Quasi-set theory is a theory for dealing with collections of indistinguishable objects. In this paper we discuss some logical and philosophical questions involved with such a theory. The analysis of these questions enable us to provide the first grounds of a possible new view of physical reality, founded on an ontology of non-individuals, to which quasi-set theory may constitute the logical basis.
متن کاملSimilarity Judgments: Philosophical, Psychological And Mathematical Investigations
This study investigates similarity judgments from two angles. First, we look at models suggested in the psychology and philosophy literature which capture the essence of concept similarity evaluation for humans. Second, we analyze the properties of many metrics which simulate such evaluation capabilities. The first angle reveals that non-experts can judge similarity and that their judgments nee...

متن کاملSome Remarks on the Philosophical Significance of Complexity Theory
1. Closed systems have constant matter and energy. They were models for classical modern physics. I stress the "model" aspect. Newtonian physics proposes a model that allows approximations good enough for (military) technology. E.g., the center of gravity is only part of a model, a thought-entity, that allows for calculation: it doesn't exist in the same way atoms and molecules exist. (excusing...
متن کاملFurther remarks on Quantitative Association Rules Mining
Efficient algorithms for discovering association rules from binary data already exist. However, most of real world databases are not boolean. The problem of expanding these algorithms to handle variety types of data such as quantitative data has been attracted the attention of many researchers. In this paper we provide a comparison of existing algorithms for generating association rules from qu...
